The Book of Us project is a book where we right about anything that interest us or we want to write about and combine it together in a book. We did this for we can express our thought and get creative juice flowing. I decide to make my writing piece about how good of a show Star Wars: The Clone Wars is. We started this project by learning about the multiple types of writing pieces such as: Inform & Explain, Analyze and Interpret, Take a stand/ Purpose a solution, etc. After we learned about the types of writing we had to write concepts for each one but they must have the same theme. I decide that the two themes were Star Wars and Video games.
In class we had to write about each one of the topics for five whole minutes. We did this in order to develop our ideas for our first draft. Sadly I wasn't there that day so I did it at home. Working on the five-minute quick write helped me visualize a better idea on what I should write about for my down draft and my final draft.
I decide to write about the correct way to watch the Star Wars movies. I notice that in my down draft I made it short and undescriptive. The biggest mistake was that I didn't really said that there was spoilers, since there might be people who never seen all the Star Wars. I talk about certain key plot points that can completely ruin a movie for someone.
After my down draft I completely changed the topic of my piece. The theme was still Star Wars but I started talking about the animated show called Star Wars: The Clone Wars. I talked about how amazing the show is and what makes it brilliant. After changing it I got multiple feedback and different types of critique. Most of the critique were online but some weren't such as the scissors and big picture critique. I sadly couldn't find my author-big picture critique but it was a critique were we wrote a tweet, say something good and bad and how we would change it. For me the most useful critique still was the author-led critique because I got help on what I need the most. The author-led critique is when we write on top of our documents what we need help the most and our classmates help us with it. The least useful critique for me was the scissor critique because it the things to put didn't really tell what I should improve upon. The scissor critique is when we cut our writing pieces and figure what we should add and cut. The useful feedback I got was from a classmate named Alex Castillo who told that I should but a spoiler sign ahead of spoilers.
In this project we had to be very organized in order for us to have a better piece. The most useful out of all the organizers was the mentor text organizer. The mentor text outline is when we take an article or writing piece and write down what we could take from each paragraph. The reason why this was use full for me was because I like to take inspiration from others work so I based my second draft after an article I read. Link to the article. The least use full organizer for me was the open line graphic organizer. The reason why I thought it was not so useful was because it's about how to make a good hook which in my opinion I didn't needed improvement on. Maybe next time I try some of the hooks I wrote down.
The most useful work for me was the reverse-engineered mentor text graphic organizer. The mentor text is a writing piece/article that we take inspiration from. The mentor text I used was a Star Wars: The Clone Wars article I read online. Here's the link to it. I was really inspired by the way the writer talked about the character development and how he said it wasn't for kids only. I was so inspired by it that I talk about those in my writing piece. I really liked what the article was saying so I used it as a guide to what I should put in it.
After getting multiple critiques and feedback I finally made my final draft. I am very proud of the work I did on this writing piece such as the explaining the plot of the Star Wars the Clone Wars. I am also proud of the big change I did from my down draft to my final draft. Although I did made a lot of progress I do feel like I made too many grammar mistakes. I noticed this when my fellow peers critique the piece and corrected me in a lot of small grammar mistakes. For the next time I make a major writing piece I will try to double read it unlike I did for this year.
This project helped me change my creative perspective such as how I was originally was going to write about what is the correct way to watch Star Wars. After I finished my down draft I thought I could write something a lot better and more detailed so I completely changed it. Draft after draft I started changing bits from my second draft till it was perfected. For the next writing project I would want to take away the idea of making each draft better then the last. This idea helped me improve my work and my determination. If I were to change my writing piece now I would definitely want to talk more about the plot of the cartoon show. In my writing piece I gave a short and simple explanation about the plot but it actually more detailed then that.
