We started by reading and the Earth Did Not Devour Him by Thomas Rivera, its about a young Mexican farmer boy who has to deal with the fact that his life is unfair because his family are farmers and they deal with poverty and getting illness. After we read and the Earth Did Not Devour Him we read a poem called Yo soy Joaquin by Rodolfo "Corky" Gonzalez and in this poem he was frustrated about the way Hispanic were treated and blamed it on a lot of people such as: Miguel Hidalgo, his parents and the Native leaders such as Tezozómoc. After we read Yo soy Joaquin we made our own poem combine a little bit of the two stories and made our Yo soy poems.
