This week I finally interviewed my grandpa and it went well just like I suspected. It started off just like many serious conversation I had with him, which is him saying were he's from and his journey from Guanajuato to T.J and his many adventures he had in T.J. Although I would say I was surprise to hear that he was a real gangsta, since I always hear stories but not from him personally. He was talking about how he used a knife (that now he uses to cut his pills) as a blackmail weapon. I will admit that when I had to do research on a subject rather oral history or something else I should probably do it, by that I mean I didn't really do it because I didn't really thought of any moments in history that effected my grandpa a lot, I personally think I learn more during the interview then before but I probably should've put something in it anyways. Overall this week was very unmemorable because currently I really can't recall what happened but I'm sure it was good.
This week have been a work full work week because not only did I had to work on the interviews and Dia de los muertos stuff I also had my SLC's this, for those who don't know what SLC are they stand for Student Led Conference. As the name says it students have to lead this conference but not only that we have to talk to our parents and teachers about how we believe we're doing so for this school year. Anyways this week we learn about ways we can improve our DP's and techniques that can help us for our interviews, the most helpful part for me was practice interviews with fellow classmates. This helped me because it taught my not ask questions in an awkward matter to people especially classmates. I hope that in the future I can remember this because not only would this be good for when I get interviewed or I'm interviewing people for their jobs, I will also take this to remember to ask question to fellow peers without getting nervous or saying it in a awkward tone. I really want to do better in this project then other interview projects because I really want to make my grandpa's voice heard before something happens to him, so because of this I will try to subtitle and make it sound a lot nicer. I would not have done this in previous project because they didn't sound important to me and they were interviews for no apparent reasons. I hope next week is more of a less work full week. ( I still want work but not as much)
Its been a while since I've last wrote one my blog so let me tell what the last few weeks. We've finally finished the I belong to project and we went on a flied trip both of which you can learn about under my humanities page. This week my class and I started on two different but similar projects, one is about dia de los muertos and the other is about interviewing people and making their stories known before something happens to them. If you want to learn about the dia de los muertos project go under the Spanish page and click on it. For most of the week Dr. P wasn't here so we had to learn about the beginning of the project, we started off by listening to many interviews but the one that caught my attention was an animated interview about how Ramon "Chunky" Sanchez and how in his school Hispanic names were changed to English like how they called him Raymond or a classmate of his went from Maria to Mary. That all changed when a new classmate named Facundo arrived and the teachers didn't knew what to nickname him. The reason I think this story got my attention was because first I know who Chunky is and how the story was animated, also his sense of humor made the story more interesting. The day after we had to demonstrate what a good and bad interview was, the most interesting one was when Javier and Peter showed what a bad interview is. This demonstration caught my eye because they on purposely add humor that could happen and how a interviewee can say something offensive to you. After seeing other interviews and hearing one about a person who passed away made me realized I should interview my grandpa because he's already 83 and I really want the world to hear his story. When I interview him I would want to learn about some of the mistakes he made because he always tells me the good things he's done but I want to learn some stories that he never told.
